Coats For Women – How To Determine Your Coat Size

Now that the “Brr” months are coming, it’s probably high-time for you to buy yourself a nice warm coat. Coats for women come in various styles and sizes; and the key to looking great while keeping yourself warm is to make sure your coat properly fits you. It’s good practice to measure your size before going out to buy new items for your wardrobe, especially when you decide to buy coats. Here’s a small step-by-step guide to measuring your body to determine your coat size.

You’ll get a more accurate measurement if you perform these steps without any other clothes on. Although if you plan on layering clothes, it would be better to wear a couple of layers first before taking the measuring tape out.

  1. Stand straight with your arms at your side.
  2. Determine your chest size. Wrap the measuring tape under your arms and around the fullest part of your bust or breast. Make sure that the tape remains parallel to the floor. Ensure that the tape is taut but not too tight. Here’s how your bust size computes into the size of your coat:
    • If your bust size falls between 30 to 31 inches, you’re an XS.
    • If your bust size falls between 32 to 33 inches, you’re an S.
    • If your bust size falls between 34 to 36 inches, you’re an M.
    • If your bust size falls between 37 to 39 inches, you’re an L.
    • If your bust size falls between 41 to 43 inches, you’re an XL.
    • If your bust size falls between 45 to 48 inches, you’re a 2XL.
    • If your bust size is 49 inches, you’re a 3XL.
    • If your bust size is 50 inches, you’re a 4XL.
  3. Determine your arm length. Bend your elbow while placing your hand on your hip bone. Measure from the base of your neck down to your elbow. Take note of this measurement. Next, measure from the elbow to the wrist then add the numbers.
  4. Measure around your waist. Then measure around the fullest part of your hips. This will help you determine your body type. If your hips are only slightly bigger than your bust size, then a regular coat should fit you. If you’re shorter than 5’4″ then a petite coat will flatter you well. Tall coat sizes are for women above 5’8″.
